Student Recognitions

  • Birdville High School CTE Student

    Joeliz Cruz-Ramos, Birdville High School senior, was recognized for placing second in the Teacher Created Materials competition at the annual Educators Rising National Conference. 

    Zane Sheffield

    Zane Sheffield, Birdville High School junior, was recognized for being named a State Board of Education (SBOE) 2022 Student Heroes Award recipient for SBOE District 11. He is one of only 15 students selected statewide for the acts of kindness, charity and service he offers others.   

Summary of Actions

  • Approved the donation from Green Valley Elementary PTA to Green Valley Elementary. 

    Approved revisions to Board Policy CDA (LOCAL) Other Revenue: Investments. This change updates the job titles of the current investment officers. 

    Approved revisions to Board Policy EIA (LOCAL) Academic Achievement: Grading/Progress Reports to Parents. This change removes references to six-week grading periods since the District has moved to nine-week grading periods beginning with the 2022–23 school year. 

    Approved the Denton Highway property reimbursement resolution. 

    Adopted the resolution authorizing the extension of available COVID-19 leave until June?30, 2023 for all staff. 

    Approved the action regarding the District security system, security infrastructure, and/or security personnel. 

    Approved the 2022–23 ad valorem tax rate of $1.2798 per $100 valuation. The maintenance and operations (M&O) portion of the tax rate is $0.8659 per $100 valuation, a 5.82 cent decrease over the 2021–22 M&O tax rate. The portion to pay the debt service (I&S) is $0.4139. The M&O tax rate is $0.0582 less than 2021–22, and the I&S rate is unchanged. 

    Adopted a resolution calling for prepayment of a portion of the Birdville ISD Unlimited Tax School Building Bonds, Series 2019. This prepayment will save taxpayers more than $5.94 million in interest payments. Since 2014, the Board has approved prepayments of $21.44 million of bond principal saving taxpayers more than $14.2 million in interest payments.  

    Approved the changes in the dates of the ¹í¹È×ÓÍø Board of Trustees meetings in November and December 2022. The November and December meetings fall during holiday periods. The changes are: Thursday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. and Thursday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. 

    Approved the 2022–23 teacher (T-TESS) appraisers. 

    Approved the 2022–23 principal and assistant principal (T-PESS) appraisers. 

    Approved the resolution recognizing 4-H as an approved extracurricular activity. Laura Miller, Brittnay Meyer, Robin Hall, Jacklyn Jones-Doyle, Alaina Woolsey, Christa DeStefano-Malik, Jordan Peldyak, and Kate Marshall will be the adjunct staff members. 

    Approved the District’s Concussion Oversight Team (COT). Team members are:  Dr.?Damond Blueitt, Dr. Michele Kirk, Adrian Rosales, Brandon Stafford, and Jared Whitmire. 

    Approved the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Region XI for reading academies local implementation. 

    Approved the revised 2022–23 general fund and debt service fund budgets. 

    Approved budget amendments. 

Personnel Report

Bids Awarded

  • Approved the bids/purchases for: 

    • CTE supplies, equipment and services from multiple vendors; and 

    • Athletics supplies, equipment and uniforms supplemental from multiple vendors. 

     

Special Session

  • Thursday, September 15, 2022, Regular Board Meeting, open session at 7 p.m., Boardroom. 

  • THE BOARD MET IN SPECIAL SESSION on Aug. 18 and took the following action: 

    Approved the order calling a bond election to fund the 2022 Bond Planning Committee’s bond package. The three-proposition bond election will be held on November 8. School property tax rates will not increase as a result of this bond proposal.

    • Rebuild Mullendore Elementary 

    • Build New Partner School (Smith/Francisco) 

    • Renovations at Denton Hwy. property
